Calm During the Storm

Oh yeah. I totally just pulled out that metaphor.  After an early dismissal, watching Lisa Patton for hours, hunkering in the closet for a few, and then seeing the 23,490 pictures of hail on Facebook (FINE. I totally would have posted one too if we had a lot here.), all is thankfully calm.  So to my “journal” I go.

Well. I think 3 months without writing a post might be indicative to how busy life has been.

Something new is I began my Master’s Degree at my undergrad alma mater. All of my courses are online, so it’s nice to “go to class” in my PJs (not that I wasn’t close to it at CU some days).  However, the busy work. Oh the busy work.  All my MAE friends did warn me that that’s all their Master’s Degree was… so eventually when I have Carpal Tunnel from the discussion posts, essay questions, papers, quizzes, etc I will list “MAE” as the reason.

While some of the material is useful, a lot of it makes me want to scream, “NO ONE’S CLASSROOM IS LIKE THIS EVER. AND I’VE NEVER HEARD A TEACHER REFERENCE FREUD, PIAGET,  OR VYGOTSKY! I HAD EARLY DISMISSAL WITH 25 SECOND GRADERS TODAY IN A PORTABLE CLASSROOM. TEACH THAT!”

But I digress.

However, don’t misunderstand my snark. I am sooo grateful that I am able to do it now.  My goal is to be done by May 2013, which means I take 9 hours each semester. One of my classes wrapped this week (and all of God’s people said…. ), with the other two finishing at the end of April.   I’ve had a fairly good balance of school work, down time, and of course teaching.

So all of you who keep asking when will there be a little Brett or little Lacey running around, thoughts won’t start rolling until after May 2013.  Unless God has a different plan. :-)

In other news, I was a Matron-of-Honor at my best friend’s wedding last weekend at Opryland Hotel.  Her wedding went beautifully, even if she or someone else did have to tell me what to do since I had NO IDEA what a MOH does since we all but eloped on the beach. (I was the only one in the bridal party who didn’t come in her wedding color to her wedding rehearsal. That thought seriously never dawned on me. HOW DO PEOPLE KNOW THIS STUFF?!)

I was also told that I said “Science affair” instead of “Science Fair” during a little speech at the rehearsal about how we met.  Just to be clear, we didn’t have a Science affair. And I blame it on it being past my bedtime on a school night (it was 8 p.m. Don’t judge me).

Although, if I am ever in a bridal party again, brides be warned. I will be oh so tempted to bust this out. (So what if this is so 2009. I LOVE IT).

5 more school days until Spring Break... I will be dancing like this at approximately Friday at 2:30!
